Well, it just wouldn't be a true triathlon season without at least one battle against injury! I had been running extremely well in April, but things started to go slowly downhill in May. Unfortunately, IRONMAN Texas seems to have been the straw that broke the camel's back, though. Now I'm saddled with a very irritable IT band situation and some semi-debilitating knee pain.
No use freaking out, though. This is my fifth season doing this (and dealing with these sorts of injuries), so you could say I've got the routine down!
I'm icing, stretching and clamshell'ing religiously now. I'm still able to ride, which is great, and swimming hasn't been affected too badly. I do feel like strong kicking and/or pushing off the wall exacerbates things a little, so I may have to dial that back soon, too.
The plan is to work extra hard to get healthy and then walk the run course at IRONMAN Coeur d'Alene (June 29) to preserve my fragile extremities for Boulder just five weeks later (August 3). Time to get healthy again!
