Prognosis Negative

It's been a few days. My attitude has improved, but my hip strain hasn't. I'm still hobbling around quite a bit, especially when I first wake up in the morning or after I've been sitting for a long while.

Running is an impossibility right now. I'm making peace with the fact that I may not be able to complete Vineman 70.3 next weekend. When it comes to serious injuries like these, I've got to pick my battles and pick them wisely. I was really excited to test myself on the Vineman course, but I've got bigger fish to fry come September.

Cycling and swimming feel fine, so I'm thinking I'll do the first two legs of the race and then bow out gracefully after the second transition. In the meantime, I've got a suite of appointments booked: I'll be seeing doctors, physical therapists, masseuses and, yes, even a chiropractor or two. The goal is to do whatever I can do (or not do!) to get healthy by the end of July. As +Vitaly Gashpar noted in his comment on my last post, I've dealt with injuries like this before; I'm confident I'll be able to bounce back for IMLT.

On the bright side, +Bo Boghosian has been riding and running really well, and +Alexander Curtis has been able to overcome a debilitating knee injury to resume training. I might be down, but the team's definitely not out. I'm looking forward to a fun race weekend no matter how my day plays out!

Oh, and before I forget! +Kristine Marigomen and my sister, +Kara Valko both won the Nike Women's Marathon/Half-Marathon lottery! They'll both be lining up in late October to tackle a very pretty course that wraps around the San Francisco coastline, and they'll be doing it with 30,000 equally marathon-minded women. Awesome!
